Woorabinda's First Offsite Program

Recently Woorabinda ran it's first offsite camping program with Willow Grove and Rawson Primary Schools.

The Willow Grove/Rawson involved the children spending some of the pro

gram paddling and hiking offsite. The focus of the camp was community and team work. The students started their journey at Willow Grove Primary School and ended up at Woorabinda School Camp. They paddled on Blue Rock Lake, camped the first night by the lake (thanks to Southern Rural Water for helping us out there). The next day the kids hiked up into the bush (Bull Beef Creek Conservation Area) before a small bus trip down to Lake Narracan where they then paddled over to Woorabinda to commence their hike to the campsite for their second night.

After that the kids spent the rest of their week in at Woorabinda engaged in some of the other activities that we have to offer such as High Ropes, Hut Building, Zip Line etc….before finishing on Friday with The Woorabinda Quest on Friday. “At camp we did walks and canoeing and by walks I mean massive, we walked 6 and a half Ks, it was challenging when we went up a really steep hill, it went for ever but I kept myself happy along the way. I had friends and we made out we were in the desert and did other funny things along the way like pretending alien ships were coming to pick us up (they were actually cars).

“On Tuesday, it was really hard going up the mountain. I was tired and sweaty. I was really surprised with myself that I didn’t take the car to the bus, I was determined to walk the last 2 K’s.”
